What to Expect

Medieval hilltop villages and green rolling hills covered with vineyards, olive groves and poppy fields, here is the Tuscany loved all over the world! On a visit to Chianti, both your eyes and taste buds are in for a treat, as the region is the epitome of captivating scenery and acclaimed wines.

Follow the path of taste through a unique itinerary blending wine, food, landscapes and people. On this Tuscany wine tour from Florence, you will visit two wineries in the heart of Chianti to taste some exquisite regional varietals and olive oil, enjoy a farm to table lunch at one of them and stop by at one of the dozen ancient hill-towns.

Depart from Florence to the historic Chianti Classico wine region for a day of education, tasting and relaxation. Travel with one of our local driver-guides who in addition to navigating for you will introduce at the wineries ensuring that your day is smooth and enjoyable.

Marvel at the stunning countryside as you make your way to the first wine estate where a local expert takes you on a tour of the farm sharing his knowledge about wine making in Tuscany. Taste some of the estate’s wines along with some of the extra virgin olive oil they produce.

Learn more about local viticulture as you visit a second wine estate and taste different wines and olive oils produced on the farm paired with local specialties such as cheese, salami, cold cuts and bruschetta. Finally stop at one of the charming hilltop villages like Panzano, Radda, or Castellina before returning to Florence.

Our Tuscany wine tours from Florence to Chianti are not a ten-minute tasting at a roadside wine bar. Instead are private, immersive cultural experiences into the region’s fabric and history, from the medieval villages to idyllic landscapes that inspired Leonardo da Vinci. Over the years, we have carefully selected only the small and medium-sized wineries devoted to quality experiences. The wineries you will be visiting take care to make a personal connection with their visitors.

You will be given an intimate and informative experience with the opportunity to discuss about grape vineyards and wine production in a leisurely manner with friendly and hospitable winemakers and in some cases with the owners themselves pleased to show you their winery’s operations and products. This does not mean that over the counter tastings do not exist, they certainly do. These are offered by commercial wineries who fit you in between one bus tour and the next…you take a quick drink and leave. However, this is not the type of experience we offer. We rather focus on quality than quantity.

We recommend this Tuscany wine tour from Florence to anyone wanting to get to know and connect to the world of Italian wine in a meaningful way. You will see the living history of one of the largest wine region in Italy where there is still a genuine atmosphere. Additionally, you will learn tidbits of local wine making history and culture. Straightaway you will realize the backstory of Chianti. All of a sudden, the delightful wines you taste will take on new meaning.

Tour FAQs

How many wineries will we visit?

For the optimal day, you will visit two of the best wineries in the area. That is a reasonable number of wineries to enjoy a relaxed visit with personal attention and unhurried pace. Talk with the grape growers, savor the delectable differences between the wines, and enjoy the surroundings.

How long will we spend at each winery?

While each winery visit is different, prepare to spend 60-90 minutes at each stop for the full experience, as you see firsthand where wine is produced, learn about wine making, and taste some of the estates wines.

Which wineries will we visit?

We usually do not know in advance. We do not have just one set of wineries that we visit, as there are so many great ones! We have a list of about 75+ wineries that make up our preferred winery list. We arrange winery appointments based on several factors, some of which include, your pick-up location, your wine preferences, the time of year, the day of the week and available wineries for the day (as they all have different days of operation and special event scheduling). All of our preferred wineries have been hand selected by us with our overall criteria being a variety of great wines, beautiful vineyards/landscape and friendly hospitality.

Are tasting fees included?

No, they are not. We work with 75+ wineries, each with their own unique pricing and experiences, and the fact that each wine tasting tour is unique to each party, each tour will have different tasting fees. The wine tasting fees will be collected at each stop by the winery. Tasting fees are your responsibility and they typically start from Euro 20 and upward per person per winery depending on your choice.

What are my options for lunch?

The choice is yours. You can have a farm to table experience at one of the two wineries or you can have lunch at one of the many great restaurants in the area but the cost of the meal is not included.
