Explore the Piazza della Signoria and see the Palazzo Vecchio, a symbol of the power, influence, and strength of the Medici family. As we walk, your guide prepares you for a visit to the famed Uffizi Gallery.

The Masterpieces of the Uffizi Gallery

Commissioned by Cosimo I de' Medici and crafted by Vasari, The Uffizi is one of the most visited museums in the world - with masterpieces from the 13th to 18th century. Once in the galleries, rather than racing through the corridors to view everything, our guide takes you on a hand-tailored route through the vast collections of the museum, guiding you to the most important works and enriching your experience with critical artistic insights.

With your guide’s help you can exult in the coloristic flourishes of such Italian Renaissance geniuses as Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael. Other illustrious artists in the collection include Titian, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, and several ancient Roman sculptors, whose works were the very inspiration for their Renaissance successors.

Accademia & Michelangelo

About 20 minutes' walk from the Uffizi lies the other highlight of the day, the Academia Gallery where Michelangelo's 15-foot tall David still amazes visitors with its masterly carving technique and its potent aesthetic presence. As you marvel at this imposing statue, your guide reveals you the incredible stories associated and the context in which it was created. You will also spend some time with Michelangelo's Slaves, in order to develop the context that surrounded the artist’s work.

Tour FAQs

Is this Best of Florence in a Day Private Tour suitable for families with young children?

Our experienced guides are passionate storytellers and specialize in bringing the works of art to life for young and old alike. However, if you are traveling with young children, we recommend you visit the museums on two different days to avoid museum overload.

Do we stop for lunch?

Yes. Along the way, there will be plenty of opportunities for lunch - you will be responsible to cover the cost. Your personal guide will be happy to provide you with personalized recommendations depending on what your tastes are. Some people like to grab a quick pizza or a snack, and some people like to sit down for a relaxing meal. Either is an option, but just know that if you sit down for a relaxing meal you might have to move faster to get in the rest of the sights.

Does the tour visit the inside of the Duomo?

You will see the Duomo, also known as the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore from the outside and your guide will discuss its exterior and significance. However, the tour does not include a visit inside the Duomo because the Duomo does not offer skip the line tickets. Thus the entrance lines can be quite atrocious.

Can we organize this tour on a Monday?

Both the Uffizi Gallery and the Academia Gallery are always closed on Mondays, so that's perhaps a good day to consider either our Best of Florence Highlights Private Tour or our Florence Street Food Tour.
