Kid Friendly Ancient Rome Colosseum Tour Overview

Experience an exciting journey into the ancient world as the Romans would have themselves. See where the Gladiators fought and march down the same paved road where the citizens welcomed soldiers after successful campaigns. Today, your professional kid-friendly guide - an archaeologist or classical historian - takes you on a fun and fact-filled tour inside the Colosseum and across to the Roman Forum for a firsthand experience your children will remember fondly.

Skip past the Colosseum entry line and relive the hustle and bustle of Roman life over 2000 years ago. Used for 500 years to host gladiatorial games and public spectacles, the Colosseum was also the scene of mock naval battles, animal hunts, executions and dramas. Thanks to your guide’s enthralling commentary, it will be easy for you to imagine the Colosseum as it was – alive with energy and the roar of the excited crowd. Your guide will enthusiastically bring these exciting scenes to life through stories and anecdotes about the fighting techniques that made gladiators superstars.

Afterwards you’ll walk next door for a stroll through the Roman Forum, a layer cake of ancient ruins to explore and discover the history that’s set in the site’s stones at your own path. What today might look like a mass of crumbling ruins will now come to life. Here you will hear the story of the Vestal Virgins; you will also learn about the emperors Julius Cesar and finally visit the Senate House, one of the few ancient buildings that is still perfectly preserved, before returning to present-day Rome.

Tour FAQs

What size bag shall I bring?

The bag that can be brought inside must fit into a tray a bit smaller than the trays at airport scanners. The Colosseum does not have any cloakroom facilities so to avoid possible denied entry, we strongly suggest that you bring the smallest bag you can on your tour.

Can I request a car service?

Vehicle are restricted inside ancient Rome. It is not possible to do this tour with a vehicle. On request, we can arrange a private luxury vehicle for commuting to the Colosseum.

Where does the tour start/end ?

The Kid Friendly Ancient Rome Colosseum Tour starts at the Colosseum where you will meet your guide at a location very close and convenient to the entrance of the site. Your confirmation email – which you will receive when you book your tour – will have the exact meeting point details. The privately guided walk concludes at the Roman Forum where you can stay inside as long as you want.

We will arrive early in the morning from the US. Can we book the tour on the same day?

We do NOT recommend booking the kid friendly ancient Rome Colosseum tour on the arrival day, especially not after a long flight. In our experience, the kids are tired to appreciate the tour. In addition, the Colosseum has very strict schedule entrance time and if your flight gets delayed, you may lose the reservation entrance and the possibility to see the site. To avoid jet lag and maximize the fun and educational aspects of the experience we recommend booking the tour the day after the arrival giving your children time to acclimate and overcome jet lag.
