What to Expect

Do you have limited time to wrap your mind around Rome’s 2,500 years of art, history, and culture? There’s no more rewarding (or more fun) way than with our Rome in a Day Private Tour. This is a combination of our two top-rated tours – our Colosseum and Ancient Rome Tour and our Highlights of the Vatican Tour – covering the must-see sights of Rome and the Vatican in just one day.

Discover the Best of Rome in a Day Private Tour

Perfect for those short on time, we visit the two symbol sights of Rome, Colosseum and Vatican. With skip the line access at both of these busy sites and an inspiring guide on hand throughout the day we’ll make the most of your time! You’ll begin your Rome in day private tour at the Vatican Museums, home to the world’s greatest collection of art — a remarkable display case of priceless treasures amassed by popes since the 16th century. The concentration of beauty and history is bewildering and the Museum is like a treasure chest stuffed with statues, paintings, tapestries and archaeological finds all exhibited in galleries where once some of the greatest artists and popes strolled.

Your guide leads you on a carefully planned route of the 9-mile long Museums visiting handpicked ancient sculpture galleries, ornate courtyards, medieval map rooms and stunning tapestries. On top of that, you’ll explore Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, the crowning glory of the Museums. Learn the details of the painstaking labor behind this great work as your guide remarks on the incredible history behind it. Afterward stroll to St. Peter’s Basilica, the home to multiple marvels and masterpieces including Michelangelo’s Pieta and the magnificent altar. Bask before the ornate basilica and its impressive dome, one of the largest in the world.

You’ll continue your Rome in day private tour as the Romans did: with the ancient world. As at the Vatican, we’ll skip entrance lines. Once inside, your guide will take you through the bloody past of the amphitheater as you hear tales of gladiators, mock sea-battles and executions. Next, stroll through the incredible ruins of the Roman Forum, which lay about 30 feet below the current level of the city.

You will learn about the ancient markets, basilicas, and temples; see the temple of the Vestal Virgins, see where the Senate was and where the most important figures in ancient times spent their days. Your guide will bring to life this ancient place so you can imagine what it was like to live in one of the most important places in history ...two thousand years ago! But the adventure doesn’t end there. You will go even further back in time at the Palatine Hill where Rome was founded. See firsthand where Emperors lived in their palaces overlooking the Colosseum and Roman Forum.

Whether you’re visiting Rome as part of a longer vacation, just passing through on your way to somewhere else, or live in the city and want to make the most of your time, our Rome in a day private tour is the ideal way to see the best that Rome has to offer in just one day.

Tour FAQs

Do we stop for lunch?

Yes. We’ve built in some time for lunch (at own expense). Your personal guide will be happy to provide you with personalized recommendations depending on what your tastes are. Some people like to grab a quick pizza or a snack, and some people like to sit down for a relaxing meal. Either is an option, but just know that if you sit down for a relaxing meal you might have to move faster to get in the rest of the sights.

Is this Rome in a Day Private Tour suitable for young children?

Our experienced guides are passionate storytellers and specialize in bringing the sights to life for young and old alike. However, this tour is recommended for children 10 years and older, but you know your kids best to determine if the tour would be appropriate.

I would like to take the Rome in a Day Private Tour but I am concerned it might be too difficult for members of my family.

Seeing all of Rome in a single day is pretty tiring but our guides are always very conscious to pace our tours to suit your family. For guests with a normal fitness level and good health, it won’t be too much but if someone in your party has issues with mobility or fitness, we would recommend that you take the Colosseum and Ancient Rome Tour and Highlights of the Vatican Tour on separate days, to give you time to rest in between.

Can I see the Sistine Chapel without having to walk through the entire Vatican Museums?

The Sistine Chapel is part of the Vatican Museums and it is located on the far end of the Museums entrance as such, you can only access the Sistine Chapel walking through the Museums.
